Bloom Pediatrics approached Playwell Bricks with a request to create a special gift to celebrate their partnership with PPC. They wanted to recreate the historical Champlain Mill building that hosted PCC’s Offices as a custom model. After closing in 1954, the mill was renovated as an open-concept office space that houses many businesses to this day.
Life In Pieces’ own Jared Oswald took on the design of the Champlain Mill building through his partnership with Playwell Bricks. A rectangular, brick building often seems easy, but this build had some specific challenges. The model sports the same exact number of windows on each side as the real building - extremely difficult to replicate at such a small scale. The tower that rises above the main atrium of the building was particularly tricky as well, with several delicate points converging on a very visible corner of the building. The resulting solution was a complicated one, relying on a floating substructure that is not connected to the rest of the model, but instead is held in by the pressure from the wall perpendicular to it.
This model made it’s debut at PCC’s UC2025 user’s conference in July of 2025.
