Sunset Passage was Jared’s entry for the LEGO® House “If It Runs On Rails” Challenge. Winners of this challenge have their models display in the LEGO® House in Billund, Denmark for a full year. Upon reading the challenge rules and seeing the first entries, Jared had an idea to subvert the normal three-dimensional train design. The silhouette design of the final model builds on what he learned during his design and build of The Way, capturing the landscape with much more color and dimension than that first model. The final design is an ohmage to vintage postcards, with a simple, toy-like train tying it to LEGO®. Each layer has a distinct color, separating it from the previous. Below the bridge, the sprawling cityscape uses a large assortment of odd parts, some of which vintage themselves and are very rare to find.

Due to an incredibly busy schedule during the time of the contest submission, Jared only had one free day to complete the design and submit it. The contest was filling with some fantastic entries and he didn’t think much of his chances of securing a spot in the LEGO® House gallery. Jared was astounded when the results came in, and Sunset Passage had made it into the fan vote, securing it’s display in the LEGO® House in 2026.

This gallery post will be updated with photos from the LEGO® House when it arrives and is displayed.
